"Recognized as one of America's  most distinguished violin makers, Mr. Gammuto has established himself among professional soloists, chamber ensemble, and orchestra members for instruments of exceptional quality. He strives to craft violins to meet the demands of musicians with a wide range of playing styles and preferences. Old world craftsmanship and pride in a job well done are the keys to his success."

We live in a time when investors dominate high-end instrument sales, not musicians. Millions of dollars are paid for vintage labeled violins. After the sale, they are placed in storage vaults, and played infrequently, if at all. The fact that they double in value every ten years is what drives this market, and makes them so attractive to investors.

My objective, as a maker, is to put superior instruments into the hands of advanced students, and professional musicians... at a fair price.

Violin making has always been one of the most challenging, and rewarding vocations. It is the gentle blending of art and science that holds the attention of Master Luthiers. In my opinion, there is no better way to make a living.  Approximately 200 manhours are spent fashioning and refining an instrument... and it sings for you when completed. What could be more rewarding than that?

Why you should consider buying from a maker directly.
Most violin makers are hard working individuals that craft instruments because it is their passion in life. Money is usually not the prime motivating factor... although, we have to eat like everyone else.

You should expect a sale price from a maker that is both reasonable and fair, for both parties. It should be apparent to you, as the buyer, that the work is labor intensive, and the cost of the raw materials are expensive to import.

Another advantage of purchasing from a maker directly is that you know how to get in touch with him should you need advice, or technical assistance.  Dealers generally have  larger quantities of instruments to choose from, but they don't always know the history of the instrument, or the person that actually made it, regardless of what the name on the interior label says. Some dealers are very well informed, and some are not. Those that lack technical expertise usually do the most talking, and contribute to a world of  misinformation. Keep in mind, their business' are based on the "Buy low, Sell High" principle.

"If you buy a product from a person that loves their work, you have made a wise investment. Guaranteed!"
